Synecore Celebrates National Apprentice Week
This National Apprentice Week we wanted to share with you an inspirational story about 27 year old Matthew Hall, who went to extraordinary lengths to pursue his dream career as an Electrician and how Synecore gave him the opportunity he so desired.
Over the years Synecore’s Managing Director, Paul Thomas has developed the ability to recognise potential in individuals who seek an opportunity. The M&E Contractor has employed several apprentices over the years, who are keen to enter the electrical and HVAC trade, but none quite like Matthew Hall!
Back in November 2016, Matthew sent his CV to Synecore in the hopes he would be considered for an Apprentice Electrician role. He had never been given a genuine opportunity before, yet had remarkably funded his own college course for two years.
Matthew’s determination to complete his course and build a career for himself was enough for Synecore to give him an interview. But, when it was discovered he had taken two trains, a bus and walked three miles to Synecore’s office in the Kent countryside, just to attend the interview, the Synecore team were impressed to say the least!
“Anyone with that kind of enthusiasm needed to be given an opportunity,” explained Paul Thomas. “We offered him the job there and then and after his interview we drove him back to the station so he could make his long journey home.
“It’s not often you come across people with such determination and enthusiasm to work. We were surprised he had been turned away so many times before. Many would have given up, but not Matthew. He is a great example of someone with passion and drive to succeed.
“Since joining Synecore, Matthew has proven to be a fantastic asset to the team. He always greets you with a smile, is presentable, polite, honest, and incredibly enthusiastic. As a company we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and part of that is employing individuals with the right attitude for the job. Matthew certainly has a rapport with our clients, as we’ve had so much positive feedback about his attitude and manner.
“It just goes to show, occasionally it’s important to look past the CV and see the individual, they could benefit your company more than you realise,” explains Thomas.
Synecore’s dedication to training electrical and HVAC engineers continues. Last year, Synecore warmly welcomed its youngest recruit to date – 16 year old Sam Everson joined the in-house design team at Synecore as an Apprentice CAD Operator. After finishing school in Rainham, Kent, Sam was keen to begin a career in construction and seized the opportunity to pursue an apprenticeship scheme with Synecore.
During their apprenticeships, Sam and Matthew are completing a series of college courses, while also learning on the job.
By continuing to invest in training for the next generation of professional engineers and designers, Synecore will play its part in ensuring the UK construction industry benefits from individuals with a good work ethic and a strong skill set.
