Mitsubishi Electric’s concealed air conditioning unit offers ideal heating and cooling for basement restaurant

Air conditioning for basement restaurant

When technology savvy restaurant, Inamo took over its new site in Hanover Place near Covent Garden it required a complete electrical and mechanical strip out, including a new air conditioning system throughout. Having previously operated as Cafe Des Amis, Inamo worked with interior experts, Fileturn, to create a brand new layout for the three-story property to help perfect the unique dining experience.

As the mechanical and electrical partner for many of Fileturn’s projects, Synecore carried out a complete survey of the site and upon assessment decided to strip out the existing R22 VRF system, which, dues to its age, was not compliant with current Fgas regulation. A replacement option was designed and sourced by Synecore to suit the new layout and meet the needs of the client.

The mechanical and electrical fit-out across the ground floor and first floor were straight forward, with a new VRF system and ducted fan coils taking the place of the original system. It was in the basement where Synecore had to consider using an alternative air conditioning unit to rest of the site. Being an enclosed basement there were three main issues to overcome; airflow, limited space and a low ceiling height.

Synecore found the best solution was the Mitsubishi Electric City Multi PFFY-P-VLRM-E Floor Standing Concealed Indoor Unit with 5.6kW cooling and 6.3kW heating. This compact unit, measuring just 220mm deep, posed the most practical solution for such an enclosed space. It could be hidden behind a stud wall and situated at floor level, thus overcoming the lack of space and ceiling height.

The Mitsubishi Electric VLRM system provided the perfect heating and cooling solution for such a small enclosed area. Its properties include: quiet operation, auto changeover from cooling to heating, and draught prevention.

Gary Piper, Synecore’s National Sales Manager says, “The combination of its unobtrusive and compact size, plus its highly efficient heating and cooling properties, makes the Mitsubishi Electric VLRM system ideal for basement refurbishments and areas where space and airflow can be an issue. It’s easy to install and is a highly efficient unit.”

Synecore’s ability to match suitable air conditioning and ventilation equipment to a commercial property in order to meet the needs of the occupant is widely recognised by the hospitality, leisure and retail industry. As a result they have been at the heart of many national roll-out programmes for some big brands, which have relied upon Synecore to fulfill the M&E solutions for their high street and airside developments.

As well as providing air conditioning and ventilation solutions, Synecore’s service and maintenance programme provides the perfect aftercare package for new and existing restaurants, hotels and retail outlets in London and across the UK. This bespoke programme has been refined to give contracted clients scheduled service and maintenance visits throughout the year depending on the size of their property and the system in place.
